In a sad turn of events, India's entry to Oscars in the best foreign language film category was ousted from the race, this Sunday. However, not all hope is lost, as India is still in the contention of winning Oscars, as two songs from Malayalam actor Mohanlal's 2016 blockbuster Pulimurugan have been listed in the initial list of 141 contenders in the best original song category.

The list of the 141 contenders for the best original song category in 90th Academy Awards, popularly called Oscars was listed today, and Lalettan, who starred last year in two Telugu films, Manamantha and Janatha Garage, had two songs from his Pulimurugan in the list. Out of the initial 141, only 5 songs will make it to the list of final nominations. The movie even got released in Telugu as 'Manyam Puli' and in Tamil under the same title. It was a success even in Telugu version.

Pulimurugan had its music composed by Gopi Sundar, who had composed music for Telugu films like Bhale Bhale Magadivoy, Oopiri, and the recent hit Ninnukori, and the two songs that made it to the list are Kaadanayum Kalchilambe and Maanathe Marikumbe that are in preliminary list, and the final 5 nominees will be announced on 23 January, and the Oscar awards event will be held  on March 4, 2018.
