Bottom Line: A disaster that doesn't help either Karunakaran or Sai Dharam Tej.
After trying to get a commercial success with mass hero roles and facing consecutive flops, supreme hero Sai Dharam Tej has this time opted to play a lover boy in a different role, under the direction of romantic films expert Karunakaran, in Tej I love you. Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Tej I love you review.
Tej loses his parents and is raised by his Peddananana Jayaprakash, but is forced to leave his family after breaks the marriage of his cousin. Tej falls in love with Nandini (Anupama Parameswaran) and as the love episode travels well, Nandini loses her memories unfortunately in an accident and forgets Tej completely. Now whether Tej was able to bring back Nandini's memories and reclaim his love is what the tedious Tej I love you is all about.
Sai Dharam Tej looks the same old self with his mannerisms and body language typically trying to ape Megastar and Powerstar, and his reactions in the romantic sequences are funny rather. Sai Dharam Tej is a disaster as his performance lacks conviction and so does his character. Anupama Parameswaran is cute and plays a similar role for the umpteenth time making it a cakewalk. The rest of the cast including Jayaprakash, Pavithra, Surekha are adequate.
While Gopi Sundar's background score is soothing, none of his songs pass the muster, barring the Andhamaina Chandamama number. Cinematography by Andrew captures the songs shot in exotic locales beautifully. Editing could have been taut as the movie drags big time. Romantic movie expert, the man behind movies like Tholi Prema and Vasu is back after a hiatus post the disastrous Endukante Premanta, with Sai Dharam Tej whose last 5 movies were utter flops, giving him a romantic hero makeover with Tej I love you. However, the director is still stuck in the 90s, with a plot as old as hills, and the presentation even worse, with cliched and predictable episodes.
With song placements acting as definite speed breakers, even more, annoying is the comedy track which doesn't generate laughs. Besides, the romantic track between Tej and Anupama doesn't click at all, as the scenes are poorly written and the whole memory loss and following episodes are beaten to death in numerous flicks of the past. With a dragging and predictable screenplay, that never keeps the viewers engaged, it's another disaster for Sai Dharam Tej as well as Karunakaran.
