India wins Junior Hockey World Cup title

Golden era seems to begin for the Indian Hockey as the boys
in blue went on to win the Junior Hockey world cup yesterday against Belgium
here at Lucknow. India defeated 2-1 in
the final against Belgium to clinch the mega title for the second time.
It was Gurjanth Singh who gave lead to India in the 8th
minute of the game and Simranjeeth Singh who scored for India in the 22nd
minute. India earlier won the Junior
Hockey World cup way back in 2001,this being second win. India created history by winning
the mega event twice equaling Germany.
India reached final by beating tough teams like
Australia,spain. Though India was favorite, the host team started of with a
great confidence attacking the visitors. Gurjant broke the deadlock with a magnificent
reverse hit past the Belgian keeper. 14 minutes after this Simranjeet doubled India's lead with a
superb field goal from edge of the circle.
In the second half Belgium managed to score a goal but India held
the lead till the end. For Belgium Fabrice Van Boackaijck in the 78th
minute converted a penalty corner into a goal but this was not enough to stop
India from being World champions.
