The 31st match of the Vivo IPL 2018, between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, began with the former batting first. While RCB lost opener Quinton De Kock early, Brendon McCullum(37) and Vohra (45) forged a partnership. and was then joined by skipper Virat Kohli, who chipped in with a cameo of 32(26).

While the lower order and middle order failed to fire, Colin de Grandhomme's big hits towards the end propelled RCB to a decent score of 167/7, with Grandhomme unbeaten on 23(10b,3x6)*. Hardik Pandya claimed 3/28. Entered the Mumbai Indians, who were rocked early, losing both the openers Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan cheaply.

As skipper Rohit Sharma was out for a first-ball duck, and Pollard departed quicker as well, Duminy (23), and Hardik Pandya 50(42) threatened to take away the match in Mumbai Indians favor, before Duminy was dismissed. Krunal Pandya (23) too chipped in with a cameo, but their efforts were just not adequate enough to take Mumbai to a win, as the RCB bowling line up delivered the perfect death bowling to limit Mumbai Indians to 153/7, as RCB won by 14 runs.
