The 25th match of the Vivo IPL 2018betwen Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab began with the Sunrisers batting first.  While skipper Kane Williamson was dismissed for a duck for Ankit Rajpoot, Opener Shikhar Dhawan and wicketkeeper-batsman Wridhiman Saha also followed suit, scalped by Ankit Rajpoot again.

With Sunrisers struggling under the unexpected attack by Rajpoot, Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan began the resurrection act, and went on to patiently accumulate runs on board, before Shakib (28) was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rajpoot struck again to remove the settled Manish Pandey, as Sunrisers ultimately ended scoring 132/6, powered by Yusuf Pathan's quickfire 21*.

After their wrecker in chief Ankit Rajpoot's 5/14 ended Hyderabad innings, the Kings XI Punjab innings began their batting on a steady note with the explosive Gayle and KL Rahul scoring runs at extreme ease, before they struggled and departed, with Gayle dismissed by Basil Thampi, scoring 23, and Rahul claimed by Rashid Khan, scoring 32.

In a twist, Shakib Al Hasan struck twice removing Mayank Agarwal and Finch, while Rashid Khan dismissed Karun Nair. Following these wickets, kings xi Punjab batsmen fell like a pack of cards, with Sandeep Sharma claiming 2/17, and Rashid Khan ending with a figure of 3/19, ultimately wrapping them for 119. Sunrisers won the match by 13 runs and credits to their impressive bowling unit.
