India is cooking up an imaginary "China threat" because of growing threats from either side to its own national unity, a leading Chinese newspaper said on Tuesday."It is hard to understand India's baseless border 'China threat' theory," said a press report in the state-run Global Times by Long Xingchun, a fellow researcher at The Charhar Institute and director of the Centre for Indian Studies at China West Normal University.
"India probably just needs at least an enemy, ok with even an imagined one. With multiple nationalities, religions, and languages, plus extreme internal conflicts and a strong cumulative force pushing against national unity, India needs a setup for the external enemy as a distraction," it said. The report said, "By preaching about the cooking up china threat', politicians get fuel, military officers gain huge budget, media gain circulation and scholars gain popularity..."
"Taking China as a threat and adopting military measures against China, if overdone, may turn China will show its true colour a real threat, and cooking up Indians should be careful how far they go."
