Not only people across the country but political analysts were shocked when BJP topbrass selected controversial Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath as Chief Minister after sweeping Uttar Pradesh elections.
They felt that BJP after the thumping win unnecessarily gave chance for the crushed opposition to go after BJP. As expected opposition leaders cried foul saying BJP took voters for a ride by not announcing CM candidate before the elections.
In the meantime Yogi Adityanath after becoming CM tried to assuage the feelings of all by taking some pro people, pro poor decisions. However at times he created controversy when Anti Romeo squads tormented even innocent youngsters and gau rakshaks attacking people.
He even created controversy by batting for the construction of Ram Temple. Now he courted another controversy by endorsing VHP's demand to rebuild Surya Temple in Bhariach, replacing Ghazi Baba Dargah. VHP has been demanding for the construction of temple as the darga was built at Balar after demolishing surya temple.
After 2014 elections BJP raised this issue and launched huge rallies for the Suheldev temple. NDA later started Suheldev Express from Ghazipur to Anand Vihar in Delhi. Yogi speaking at a rally said "There's nobody in the country who would not give Ashfaqullah Khan, Abdul Hameed and APJ Abdul Kalam their due honour, but we will have to decide whether Ghazni, Ghauri, Khilji, Babar and Aurangzeb deserve any regard,"
Yogi thundered "Ghazni and his nephew plundered the country and demolished monasteries and temples to divide the country,"and added "After successive invasions, the country forgot heroes like Suheldev who united many smaller kingdoms."
